HELP WITH PRICE QUOTES FROM MACHINE SHOPS!!!!
ok so im building my b16 block and have most the parts and got 2 different quotes from machine shops which diffur in price HUGE! can anyone help me on wats the deal wit that???? how much does it normally cost for the stuff im doing? heres da breakdown
shop1: head- valve job($160), surface($48), 4 valves and 8 guides labor and install(48+80)
block: sleeves labor($480) +turbo sleeves n/a name brand($480), bore(60), deck(60), line hone(120), polish crank(40), hot tank(40), balance everything (185) i might be forgettin sum stuff but it allll adds up to the ballpark of 1900 dollars
shop2: sleeveed out wit parts and labor, some diesel type of sleeves he recomends for turbo set up, and all that stuff polish crank and blanace nd everything for 900 dollars + 250 or so for the head job.
biggg difference in price.. shop 1 is 480 for parts and 480 for labor and shop 2 is 500 for both? wat do i do? shuld i go with shop1 cuz it seems more reliable den shop 2? i dnt wanna get it built and sumthn go wrong cuz i took the cheap route.. any suggestions?? how much do u hear of people paying for this kind of work? please help me out asap cuz i need to tell da shop if he shuld leave my stuff alone or work on it. its at shop1 right now so iono if i shuld take it and drop it off at shop 2. HELPP!!

Re: HELP WITH PRICE QUOTES FROM MACHINE SHOPS!!!! (ilovemycoupe)
i would go with shop 1 their pricing seems about normal. my homeboy got all that **** and paid 1300 with darton sleeves, blueprint and balanced, line bored. that was just the block though. the head was around the same thing you were quoted. i would ask around to see if anyone has ever gotten work done by either shop to be safe.
it's a big investment you dont want to flush your money down the drain for shitty work. good luck

What machine shops are you looking at? If i had to choose i generally go with the idea that you get what you pay for, and based on that i would go with the first shop.

also is it necessary that i go with name brand sleeves? golden eagle or darton? cuz the shop1 guy is special orderin the sleeves and said there made for turbo b16's and said there wayyy more then enough for me and said b4 i can ever damage the sleeves my pistons wuld get damaged and pistons are 8.3: so i doubt that wuld happen..

if he says he has had good experience with those sleeves before then go for it. just to be safe, call him up and ask what kind they were and do some research on em.
