as THE tranny guru, check your motor mounts, but most likely you have a worn 1-2 shifter fork.
I'm up to about 50 SOHC trannys and only have ever seen one destroyed synchro.
it was the result of a broken 1-2 shifter fork.........

new fork is $55-60 from dealer, requires complete tranny teardown. Yours will be fine for a while as it is just worn. But when it does break you'll be shifting 1-3-4, no second gear.
