Default Help with me D16z6 tranny.....

tonight i went to the track and i ran 9.82 on a d16z6 with i/h/e, i was told that was good, but when i switch from 1st to 2nd i heard a grate or light grinding noise. its only from 1-2nd no other gears. what the hell could that be?????????

If it's high rpm only, definately sounds like a syncro.

Put Honda MTF in your tranny and see if that helps. If not that i have heard good things about GM Sycrnomesh.

as THE tranny guru, check your motor mounts, but most likely you have a worn 1-2 shifter fork.

I'm up to about 50 SOHC trannys and only have ever seen one destroyed synchro.



it was the result of a broken 1-2 shifter fork.........

go buy some GM Synchromesh friction modified from your local Chevy dealership!! Let me know if it works the same wonders it works on B-series trannies!!!!???

new fork is $55-60 from dealer, requires complete tranny teardown. Yours will be fine for a while as it is just worn. But when it does break you'll be shifting 1-3-4, no second gear.
