Help HX to EX... jackson racing super charger!!
Ok well i just picked up a 97 civic coupe HX and i bought a JRSC... i know the HX's have the lil EGR sytem on the intake manifold so if i put the JRSC on then it will throw a code.. so i picked up a 97 EX ecu and i tried to run it on my hx right now and unplug the egr but it throws a code for knock sensor? and oxygen heat sensor.. doesnt my motor have a nock sensor??? well anyways does anyone have any advice on wat to do? im thinkin of just buying a EX harness and a complete d16y8 and throwin it in.. basically converting the car to a ex...

tru.. i was thinkin about that because i have a built/boosted crx.. and im going to pick up hondata s300 in the next week or so... i was going to c if the tuner can just have 2 dif. settings on it.. like the (i think its called) moates? chip where the chip has a switch so its like 2 chips in one.. u can have a daily driver tune on pump gas then race tune on 110 or something, but i would just do a tune for the crx and then a tune for the Coupe..

You can't just throw an EX ECU on an HX and expect it to run right. Of course it's going to throw codes, that's the least of your worries. The valvetrains are completely different flow and theory between those two heads. The HX runs 12 valves until 2500 RPM, then switches to 16 valve mode. Fuel atomizes much better in the low RPM, and so an EX ECU is going to run it rich and the ignition timing is going to be off. The EX runs 16 valves all the time but switches to a higher lift, longer duration, and differently timed intake lobe at around 5000 RPM.
The HX head is a great head. If you're going to go the lengths of supercharging; and you want to use such an advanced head, why not get some real engine management like the AEM EMS. It is MUCH more flexible, easier, and allows you to tune on the fly rather than emulate and then burn PROMs. The end result is that your car is much better tuned. More power, better consistency, and better driveability.

also, the hx has 180cc injectors. actually the hx (y5) and ex (y8) motor are the same except minor things like the cam / roller rockers and EGR.
If you run a p28 and a jackson, it will require some special tuning due to the unique low/high cam and ignition tables it has.
I own an hx and I was having alot of code problems so i threw a chipped p28 in it and tuned it for gas mileage. I am currently getting 44 / 56 mpg and has a few more hp up top. I was actually considering boosting it with a 14b or something similar.
