97 Civic HX 2dr CEL/emissions troubles
I'm asking this for a friend of mine.
My friend has a 97 HX AT that she bought used not too long ago. At some point...the PO had swapped out the original HX engine/tranny/ecu with an EX setup (probably to acquire VTEC and more HP). At this point, I'm not sure if they also swapped out the engine harness or not.
We got the car and it had 5 codes on it. We remedied all but 2 so far. It continues to throw CELs for the fuel pressure sensor (apparently...it's supposed to reside somewhere near the gastank at the rear of the vehicle in an EX, but the HX's and DX's don't have this sensor/wiring.) So the EX ecu is looking for this sensor that the car is NOT equipped with.
She needs to have this fixed ASAP as her registration will be revoked if she doesn't pass CT emissions.
Is there any way to trick the ECU into thinking that the sensor is there...even if only long enough to pass emissions??? Maybe add a few resitors into the wiring somewhere or something???
ANY and ALL HELP will be greatly appreciated. TYVMIA

Besides...she has an EX engine...what good is having a VTEC engine...if the VTEC never engages because it's in limp mode because of the CEL?

you would not drive the car permanently on the dx ecu. it would be to just get passed emissions. i run one on my z6 swapped dx. it makes it easier then worrying about buying a knock sensor or other pointless sensors the ex ecu looks for. when I'm gonna go home and throw my chipped p28 in when i get home from passing emissions. the dx ecu looks for the bare minimum because it don't have these other sensors. if the dx ecu is still throwing codes then i would fix the codes it is throwing which cant be many and run it through and pass it. swap the ecu's out and drive for another 2yrs until your registration expires again. As grumblemarc said i answered the question with the best and easiest way to pass emissions without fixing 8 diff sensors the dx ecu doesn't look for.

I think she already tried an HX ecu...but I will check with her and get a definite answer on that. Maybe we can source a DX ecu and try that just to get her past emmisions for the time being. I did check post #3 and I am going to try what it suggests.
