Default Help getting crank pulley bolt off a '94 DX

The indentation in the middle of the pulley isn't a nice hex head you can use the Honda tool on.. it's a 3" wide, round, smooth hole. I tried wedging a screwdriver through one of the holes, but the screwdriver shaft (a burly PH1) snapped in half.

Any other ideas for holding the pulley steady while I go at it with the ratchet?

Whoops, I guess I left that out. I edited the original post.

But the bolt is what I'm trying to remove. I don't anticipate much trouble getting the pulley off once the bolt is off.

yeah that bolt is a royal pain in the a$$ anyway you need a high power impact and a good air source to get that damn thing off i saved myself the trouble and sent my motor to the machine shop with it on there (it needed to be rebuilt anyway) but yeah i know your pain i and freinds have broken several good tools tryin to get those off

OK, I have access to a good impact wrench, but I'm still not sure how to immobilize the pulley while I go at it with the wrench. Any ideas?

it is a IMPACT wrench.. the impact will break it loose before it turns... granted you have enough pressure

The only real right way is to use the pulley tool... best investment I made ...

It's not that hard to turn, I'm worried the impact wrench won't be enough without the pulley immobilized somehow. I'll try it out tomorrow when I have the wrench though.

Thanks.

His crank pulley doesn't have the hex hole in it. I've only ever seen one D-series that had that style pully, D16Z6, every D15B7/B8/D15B vtec I ever saw didn't have the hex insert.

To the OP, get a tapered metal bar to hold the pulley if it does turn, although with the impact it really shouldn't.

I have a D15B sitting in my garage. Still haven't dropped it into my car...
Anyway, I tryed my dad's old 1/2inch impact wrench, and it busted the nut loose in 30 seconds or so. And no, you don't need to immobilize the pulley. The impact uses a hammering action that cracks it loose.

Oh yeah. Impacts usually say to run them at 90 PSI. Ignore that, just crank it up as high as it will go.

Call me crazy but this is what I do....Get a breaker bar, then get a 6 foot lead pipe from lowes or home depot, slip the lead pipe over the breaker bar to give you all the leverage you can get. Then with all that in place have someone in the car turn the ignition for like ONE SECOND and the power of the starter with you on lead pipe is enough to get the crank pulley loose. If done right the crank pulley should spin right off, thats what I do but you have to be carefull doin it!
