Help With Engine Code + Car
i did search, and found broad info i just need it in plain english for a friend to understand.
there is a civic si hatch(pre 2000) that has the same engine with a civic ex couple(same year approx). the d16y7(or something?)
i appreciate help since i am 28 and the girl trying to tell me she knows better is 19. i think its halarious but am upset at myself cause i couldnt remember what i once knew. google overloads with info. just need the straight and narrow. thanks guys!
and also the crx si, it has the same single cam vtec. the same as the regular del sol engine, but the del sol does have the option of one of the 00-01 civic si b16a engines.
reason for the post again is to remind myself, and enlighten someone to what is. hopefully someone posts =\
US market only. i know JDM market throws different engines in diff cars. i am just talking about UsOfA.

Re: Help With Engine Code + Car
Is this Engrish?
What year EXACTLY is the "pre 2000" Civic? They made Civics in the 80s you know.
And to top it off the engine code is stamped on the BLOCK!!!

Re: Help With Engine Code + Car
ok sorry for idiotic post i still havent slept so ill try to make this one make more sense.
this girl has a 96 civic hatch. i asked her if she had vtec. she said no they dont come with vtec.(wrong?) she said only 00-01 civic coupes come with vtec, being the b16a.(wrong) cause we know the civic ex has single cam vtec.
to my knowledge some hatchbacks come with the civic ex coupe engine.(right?)
then me being all sleepy and going overboard i brought up the crx and del sol cause i thought there is a del sol with a d series engine, or you can get a del sol that comes with a b16a. (right?)
so with all this i once again gave way to much info trying to explain why. but the main thing i was trying to get accross to this girl is that some civic hatchbacks come with d16 vtec engines.(right?)
and if you reply to this i thank you greatly. sorry i suck i am going to sleep now. hopefully you guys set me straight, that is if my questions are clear enough to understand. thanks!

Re: Help With Engine Code + Car
Er what? Both of you have no clue.
D16Y7 - Non-VTEC. Found in the DX hatchbacks and 4 door sedans from the factory.
D16Y8 - VTEC. ONLY found in the 2 door EX models.
Both of these are 6th generation Civics made from 96-00.
Hell, Even Wikipedia has that info.

this girl has a 96 civic hatch. i asked her if she had vtec. she said no they dont come with vtec.(wrong?) Look on the block for the stamp that says D16** if it says D16Y8 it has VTEC. D16Y7s do not. Or you could simply look for the VTEC solenoid on the back left side of the head. she said only 00-01 civic coupes come with vtec, being the b16a.(wrong) cause we know the civic ex has single cam vtec.
to my knowledge some hatchbacks come with the civic ex coupe engine.(right?) The EX hatchback has a d16y8 as far as I'm aware.
then me being all sleepy and going overboard i brought up the crx and del sol cause i thought there is a del sol with a d series engine, or you can get a del sol that comes with a b16a. (right?) Correct

Yupp. If it has a D16Y8 it has VTEC. Other D series engines have VTEC too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine
