HELP: Eg Si overheating troubleshoot
Guys, please help me out here
i bought my eg 2 years ago and when i bought it i replaced all the belts/water pump/ seals/thermostats. (since changed i put down about 18k on it)
it was hot out yesterday so i turned my ac on then it happened.
the second i shut the ac off the temp gauge dropped down but then it went back up again.
to sum up after the engine cooled down i checked the coolant and its still full inside the rad.
which means the coolant isn't missing and i have yet heard any weird sound from the engine bay. i wondered if it's the thermostats or the waterpump
funny thing is when the engine overheats if i turn the heater on full ..the temp would drop down to a little higher than normal operating temp but steady.
can someone please help me out on which part to change??
thank you guys

I see no indication from your post that your car is overheating.
All I can tell from your post is the factory temp gauge reads high some times. These older hondas seem to have a lot of problems with their gauges.
Just to be safe I would run this test:
++ verify your fans are running. After you have been driving hard for at least 10 minutes and your temp gauge is up, pull over and see if your fans are running. You will probably have to rev your engine at idle a lot to make the fans go on.
++ since your car has a/c. turn the a/c on and see if your radiator fan kicks on.
++ pressure test the coolant system
++ with the car warm, check the top and bottom radiator hose. they should feel about the same in temp. If not you could have a bad thermostat or bad radiator.

Sorry i haven't really driven the car much lately
but i do believe it's the thermostats
Took it for a drive last night, after the engine starts to overheat again
check the hoses and the upper one was hot lower one was cold so it's pretty obvious
now it's gotta be the thermostats
thanks for the input

Re: HELP: Eg Si overheating troubleshoot
Alright guys, Big problem
i changed the thermostats just now and car still over heats
the lower radiator hose is still cool, upper is super hot.
Fan does not turn on
what could be the issue? bad radiator?
i don't know why the hot water doesn't flow into the lower hose
its a brand new thermostat i just bought today from the parts store.
someone please help me out
should i remove the thermostat just to see if the water would flow over and the fan turns on??
maybe i will try that now and report back in a few
help me out please!!!!

Re: HELP: Eg Si overheating troubleshoot
Kfray, yes i just did that
Radiator flashed with lower hose off, didn't see anything coming out of it except water
installed the new thermostat back on.. radiator cap off
filled water only and let it boiled... later mixed with the new coolant and guess what
it's working now.. the lower hose started to get warm and coolant seems to flow then the fan kicked in. NO MORE OVERHEATING Issue.
must be something clog somewhere
thanks for all the help guys!!!
