Help - Driverside Thumping Noise
I was wondering if anyone has run into anything like this before. When I am not on the gas I get a steady loud thumping from the front left of my car. It does not matter if I am in gear or out coasting it still does it just as bad, but only happens when I am not accelerating. The noise does not seem to be any better or worse while turning, or care what gear I am in. There is no noticeable pull so the alignment seems ok.
This just started recently when I had some busted motor mounts swapped out for new ones, and had a new tire put on that side as well. The shop I usually take it into is saying its my tranny but I have serious doubts. I was thinking along the lines of a wheel bearing or possibly some blown out bushings.
This car is a rolling frankenstien nightmare that I am working on fixing its a 94 del sol si with a h22 + (sh?) tranny the id plate for the trannys gone and by looking at the mounting bolts id say its either a sh or possibly accord tranny. The rear left shock is blown, and the rest of the suspension looks pretty used up. I have new tires all around as well as new brakes.
Hopefully tear apart the front left this weekend and see if tis anything obvious. Any advice on what to look for / what it might be would be much appreciated.

Eliminate the halfshafts, go under and wiggle the joints, cheak for tears, and also make sure the intermediate shaft bearing is good and it is bolted on correctly.

Well I got out to where my car was sitting, and the problem was pretty easy to find the front left was being held on by one lug, the rest took about two turns before they came off. Good because its a cheep fix, bad because my mechanic sucks apparently. Now I just need to buy some new suspension...
