help with civic overheating on road trip!!
Hey everyone. I have a 98 civic, swapped with a turbo gsr motor. I am on a road trip right now from Houston tx to vancouver BC. I have made it to grants pass oregon but my car is having some serious troubles. The temp. goes way up and stays extremely high. Every so often it will flop down to normal and then just jumps around alot. I stopped today and had a new t-stat, radiator cap and coolant flush done. Still no luck. My next thought was head gasket problem but im thinking if that were the case it wouldn't cool down or fluctuate so much. The only thing i have done recently is change out my iridium plugs for coppers. Any ideas as to what could be doing this would be much appreciated!

Re: (Unit44justin)
had a leak down test done, no leaks anywhere. The fan is working, i even jumped it for a leg of the trip to make sure that wasnt the issue. Both of the temp sensors are reading high. I just had one of them go out before the trip so i swapped it out, so im thinking its not the sensors. :-/

no. built with forged internals and cams. the strange part is it runs just fine, i would think if there was anything serious wrong it would cough or sputter or something, just runs hot.

i was thinking in more the line if it's a dart block, the water ports and opening for the coolant are narrow, so it doesn't flow as well. or if he has a block guard, it might be a little bit to restrictive and he might have to make the holes in the block guard bigger.

Re: (EJ8 GSR-T)
there's lots and lots of reasons why a car would overheat, it may be one thing or a combination of a few. maybe there's air in the cooling system, the radiator might not be working correctly (or lots of debris on it), the radiator cap, a leak, old oil, water pump, ignition timing, exhaust system (check vacuum readings, pipes and converters), the radiator hose could of collapsed, even not having the 50/50 antifreeze can cause it to overheat. you might just have to eliminate what you think might be causing it to overheat one by one =/ gl

Re: (EJ8 GSR-T)
okay, the what size radiator do you have? is is a have or a full size? and another advise id have to add is get a external water temp gauge. something to measure the temp better. cause re reading your post, but be okay but that one of your sensors or your cluster might be going wacko?
