help with A/C on my 95 civic
okay, so my civic that I just bought is not producing COLD air. It makes COOL air, but not cold enough...so I know somethings wrong. I recharged the system and checked the pressure with a gauge that says that the pressure is normal. The compressor is clicking on and the Low pressure lines are cold. I removed the glove compartment and felt the evaporator case which is also cold. I know there is Refrigerant in the system, but why isn't it creating cold air? any ideas?

Re: help with A/C on my 95 civic (mattcalica)
okay, so I took my car to my dads friend...he checked it out and said that the A/C compressor is stopping at idle and that my expansion valve is bad. Now my first question is...is it normal for the compressor to stop? I was watching the compressor turn and it will run for a good 5 minutes straight and then the inside will stop for a second and then immediately start up again; almost like it's supposed to do that. I am also thinking that a bad expansion valve would CAUSE the compressor to do that, correct? what about a bad a/c thermostat? would that cause any of these problems??? someone please help!!!

I don't know much about Honda AC systems but real AC's got a high and low pressure switch - so you might wanna check the level of the refridgerant, b/c if it's too high or too low it won't work. Also, if the expansion valve is bad I would replace it and see where you are from there.

a tell tail sign of a bad expansion valve will show a negative low side pressure reading on the gauge acutaly it will be in a vacum on the low side.what are the pressures on the gauges ? that info is real important so we know what path to go with the system.if the system is low on freon the compressure will cycle a lot compared to a changed system with the correct amount of freon.
here is th correct amount that should be in the system
’94–95 Civic
’94–97 del Sol
R-134a 500–550 g 0.500–0.550 kg 1.1–1.2 lb 17.6–19.4 oz
