Ok, so i've been researching how to legally BAR a b16a3 into my 88' crx si, but still have a lot of questions i hope you guys can help me out with.

So far i've learned the following which i stole from another thread:

...MOTORS CAN BE LEGAL AS LONG AS:
1. The engine is the same year as car or newer.
2. The ECU is a USDM and not JDM.
3. NO JDM wiring harness, it must be USDM.
4. The intake must be the original USDM air box, OR an intake that has a C.A.R.B sticker that is STRICTLY for the swapped motor. (Example: an AEM CAI for a GSR with a GSR motor will PASS, a AEM CAI for a Type R with a GSR motor will NOT pass)
5. The exhaust manifold MUST BE USDM, and if it is not O.E. then it must have a C.A.R.B sticker that matches the motor. I asked the ref. if they could really tell the difference between a stock USDM and JDM exhaust manifold, and he said that they have pictures for everything, and there are slight differences.
6. No adjustable FPR's, not unless it has a C.A.R.B. sticker.
7. Must have a catalytic converter hooked up (this one is pretty obvious).
8. All USDM O.E. smog equipment MUST be hooked up and working properly!

My questions are:

*what if any paperwork is needed from a b16a3 because if if i stand correct, a b16a3 does not have a vin on the block or tranny to prove it is legit or stolen. How can i check to make sure a longblock is legit?

*does the tranny have to match the block, or can it be a jdm b16a tranny?

*i have a 99% complete p30 engine harness, missing one sensor, can i splice it to fix it?

*is a jumper harness allowed from the p30 ecu to my crx si?


I tried calling the 800-952-5210 number but they could not be as specific as i would of liked. Anyone know of a referee # that i can call around the contra costa county area or bay area?

JDM transmission will be fine. Car needs to be converted to OBD1, you wont be using a complete engine harness, you'll instead be swapping some plugs, adding some wires and lengthening others where required. As I recall a jumper harness wont pass in California, get a set of ECU plugs from any OBD1 honda and hardwire them in.

*easier to use ur stock harness
*yes u can pass with a jumper harness, my buddy did on his 89crx

all you have to do is pass visual and u get the sticker then they will tell u to go to a smog shop
