HELP. 97 ex coupe with three grand to work with. B16?
I have a 97 ex coupe non vtec. Borring. I have about $3000 to work with. I've done a little research and thinking on a b16 swap. Also just thinking of selling the civic to buy neighbors 00 prelude. Any suggestions?

If its an EX then you have Vtec. Unless you got ripped off. For 3 grand you might be able to get a GSR swap. Give or take a few hundo. Check around and see what you can find. Or if you want the LUDE then get it.

EX's have a SOHC Vtec. What's the stamp on the block say?
If you search right you can do it for 3k.

Not certain but I think d16 y8. Sohc vtec would mean it doesn't say vtec on my motor, just Honda? But thanks for the help.

Yeah D16y8 is a SOHC Vtec. Its still Vtec even though it doesn't say it. Either way if you decide to do a swap whether its B16 or B18 it will make things much easier. Trust me.

GSR swap would be the way to go. Here full GSR changeover/swap is around $2000. Which usually includes mounts, tranny, manifolds, ecu, harness, etc.
You could also do something like LS Turbo. LS swaps are around $1200 here, turbo kits for b-series are anywhere from $350-ish for homemade, and $1000 for name brand complete bolt on kits. But this will also need to be tuned to run correctly and be reliable. You can head over to Parris Performance and get a dyno tune for I think it's like $150-$200.
As for your VTec problem, all EX's have vtec. There should be a vtec solenoid near the upper left hand corner (looking at the engine) of the valve cover. Anyways, good luck!

d16y8 is definitely vtec.
My gsr swap cost me just over 2400, including a new clutch, axles, fluids, brackets, mounts, and all of the odds and ends parts I bought to replace before I put it in. Much better bang/buck than a b16 IMO.
hit up hondamarketplace or craigslist and try to find someone selling one locally. I got my swap from the marketplace.... Had to drive 10 hours round trip to pick it up, but it was worth it. Also just got a B20z longblock on CL for $500.
Or, if you insist on buying a motor from an importer, Hmotors is good. A B16 complete swap will probably cost you close to 3K shipped though.
