head swap questions
ok so a friend and myself has decided to do a head swap on his 96 ex 2dr. Just a few questions.
#1 ZC SOHC block... wanting to install a d15b vtec head. will this work??? just to double check.
#2 is there a difference in the timing belt? if so what is the correct one to use?

#1 Yes it will work
#2 They are different. The SOHC ZC belt has 106 teeth, and the JDM D15B has 103 teeth. Use the 104 teeth timing belt from the D16Z6 or D16Y8 (92-00 civic EX)

That may be debatable, not trying to prove you wrong Bauley, but I've been wondering this myself. The a6/b7/b8 tensioner is a lot larger diameter than the z6 one.
I THINK that if we use a z6 head with a d16a6 (sohc ZC) block along with the d16a6 tensioner, that the d16a6 belt is the one to use. That could be correct but then again I may be wrong, I wonder if the cam sits any higher on the a6/b7 heads. This may be why the vx belt is shorter than the d15b7/d15b2 belt. But then again the tensioners are different on these blocks as well. Perhaps you (95jeremie) can test it and provide the results

If the JDM D15B belt is too tight, use the Z6/Y8. If that one is too tight, use the B7/A6.

Re: head swap questions (BauleyCivic)
I would use the Z6 belt since that is the closest to what you are going to get. I have a SOHC VTEC ZC and had a D16Z6 and the timing belt is identical, as is the tensioner. The head is exactly the same. Good luck.
