Default head gasket

I want to run this by you guys and see what you think. I have a 1998 honda civic ex with 154000 miles on it. I've not had any serious problems unitl now Saturday I notcied the car was running hot. The heat dial was past the the half way point but it never got into the red. This morning I take it into the honda dealer and was told that it had a cracked radiator. So I go ahead and have them fix the radiator and replace the thermostat. After this was done the tech runs some type of pressurizing test and noticed that little air bubbles were coing up in the antifreze. So he tells me that I most likely warpped a head gasket. This is a 1000.00 repair job I have no problem getting the civic fixed but I just need to know how can you warp a head when the car never reached the red and it was not even on the road for 30 minutes as soon as I noticed I took the closet exit and went back home. So what do you guys think I want to put at least 200000 miles on this car. I put over 250,000 on an old 92 accord that I would still be driving now if I did not total it out one night.

Yeah 1000 is alot to spend on just a headgasket for a D block (Machine work/Labor/60 dollar gasket)
People sell close to complete D motors in that range.

You are right I just called a Honda salvage yard a few miles from here. The rep stated that I could buy a used motor with 60,000 miles on it for 900.00. I'm still trying to figure out how that small amout of time would have warpped a head gasket.

it most likely warped your head or maybe you blew the headgasket. I would just swap that engine for another one...i was quoted 800 CAD for a y7, and that includes labor

The tech said that its warpped I'm not going to be able to get this work done until the end of next week. Will it cost me any problems if I drive it until them I'm really pissed about this entire situation I've never had any trouble out of any honda that we've owned. Hell a friend of mines old accord over heated he drove it for a few hours before he got back in state and he still did not have warpping problems actually that car still runs

Guys I spoke to a honda tech at another shop he said for me to just drive my civic if it gets hot again than do a gasket or a new engine. On the other hand he said if it does not get hot keep driving it he also stated that he has seen this problem before where a honda would run a little hot and warp the head however he said 1 out of 20 it would warp the head enough to warrent concern he said most of the time its not serious damage.
