No, I have never aimed the strut/spring assembly at my car as I am about to fire them off.

People are way too cautious with unloading springs. Point it at a wall, put your foot on the spring and use an airtool to remove the upper nut. It'll recoil, but it's not going to shoot through the wall and bounce all over the place. The only real concern is making sure you don't let any of the washers rocket out into the great unknown.

I couldn't tell you how many springs I've taken off and none have slid more than 4 or 5 feet and not fast enough to do much if any damage.

Relax, it's no big deal.

Just wrap it in a thick blanket, and tie it down securely, and use a very long socket extension. Sounds sketchy, but is the safest method ive seen, short of actually using spring compressors

i just use some old pants i have,, put the shock in the middle basicly where your knee would be, and unscrew with either a gun or wrench or whatever, so it stays inside the pant leg.. ( if that makes sense to you guys)

lol you know spring compressors are only $20 for the cheap kind that actually works with lifetime gurantee while the autozone provides em for a rental fee that gets returned if you return the tool i believe.

I think the deposit at autozone was $50 when I changed my springs. If I change them again, I might try it this way.
