Ok I am redoing this post for better answers. What is the best DOHC swap to do in an EK for base horsepower, then without doing outrageous rebuilding be able to go turbo? As for now I am running an EX in my 96 Civic coupe, but want to swap for a DOHC. With limited funds at the time, this motor would be bone stock. Over time I want to build the motor to turn 11k rpms safely with a turbo pushing 12psi. This will be over time of course so basically what I am tryin to figure out is:

1) whats the best base DOHC to swap for with limited funds?
2) whats the best route (with limited funds) to go turbo?
3) whats the best route (with limited funds) to turn 11k rpms?

Come one guys I know with all the knowledge out there combined I can get the info I am looking for. Now lets hear what you have to say.

your #s are backwards, mang. the H22A is the DOHC VTEC, the H23A is the non-VTEC. I also have another answer to your question- buy the beautiful H22A sitting in my garage. IM me or check my sig for pics. The engines--> H22A ~195-200 hp. H23A ~170 hp.

higher revs dont equal more horsepower just more time in each gear, therefore with turbo pushing 12psi i would think that would equal more speed. I am not building a drag car here, just something to have fun with on the interstate, and show up my friend with the 02 WRX that thinks he has the best car around. call me a ricer or whatever but if you knew me you would understand me.

You don't need a higher redline. Just change the gear ratios. Use an LS or DX tranny
