gutted interior paint help.
heres my situation,
so im sending my ek in for a complete color changeover, ive gutted the interior completely besides the dash, my trunk and under the rear seat is good to go but there is some surface rust on the rear floors and front, i say surface rust because ive scrapped the rusty paint chips off to the point where it just needs to be sanded away if possible, when i scrape deep into the rust metal is exposed so im assuming it is just surface rust, i just want to prep it good enough for the body shop to get to work on other things right away and not waste time on it, this car has been winter driven 6yrs and now it is time to save the body and be summer driven only, any ideas? or experiences with this sort of thing? should i take a sander to the spots and go at it? i doubt it needs to be cut out cause it still sounds like metal and it doesnt seem rusted through, plus my floor underneath the car seems fine, should i sand it to the best i can and just let them lay a primer/base/clear over minimal rust? hope some can help, thanks.

so are they going to paint the entire inside? if not, you could just sand down the rust areas and use a primer/sealer if the area isn't going to be seen. Also, was the sound insulation removed? When I stripped my hatch I remember a thick black tar-like coating.
I'm getting my hatch painted too when I get time. black to champ white. It might be easier if you have the front and side glass removed. i hear its not that expensive.

yup interior completely painted the same color as the exterior color, and i plan not to run a back seat, mats and rear panels and maybe no headliner, depends, but everything can be seen, ive removed all the tar/sound deadening and even scrapped some of that sealant/glue off to make it a bit cleaner, any ideas on how to get it completly off? also im leaving the glass work to the shop, im just stripping it in and out for paint.

they quoted me 4-5k in and out paint plus rust work on the rear quarters, I told them everything I wanted and everything I was doing to it before I brought it to them, not really sure but wouldnt they take care of the surface rust if I never decided to touch it?

Ouch, that's quite the price tag! Anyways, I'd take a sanding disk to the surface rust, spray rust inhibitor, then spray "bedliner" onto the floor boards. Oh, this is assuming you scraped up all the factory "sound deadening" crap too. This is exactly what I'll be doing in my hatch. GL!

Ditto to the comment above about being a bit expensive, especially since it seems that you did a lot of the stripping of the car (inside+outside) but if it's you what you want go for it!
Be sure to post before and after pics. In fact, post some before pics in this thread.

I was told you gotta pay to play, i actually took a sander to the floor and got it to bare metal so thats how I'm going to leave it, and what a sigh of relief knowing no cutting is required, i also did remove every single tar/ sound deadening material you can find on my car even scraped some of that sealant glue stuff off, not really felling the bed liner idea since I want my interior somewhat smooth and glossy as an aftermath, but now I'm just going to leave the rest to the body shop cause I am out of time and need to do other things, will post pics before I take her in and also an after shot. Thanks.
