As far as I know yes....my friend put on a header and punched cat on his 2001 ITR and the light comes on but it doesn't do anything. It helped a lot.

I dont know if this will help much, but I put a hi-flow catalytic converter on my car and nothing ever came on. It is pretty much a straight pipe. I dont have emissions tests here, so you might wanna watch that.

Somewhere I read a gutted cat hurts more then helps in most cases, just get a test pipe.

gutted cats-
test pipes-

hi flow cat that won't make you look like a fool for gaining .5HP with your gay test pipe or gutted cat and will still allow you to pass emissions tests-

A gutted cat would disrupt the flow and velocity of the exhaust.

Thanx for the help guys. JDMb18c how does your setup sound? I also have the ES oval and had planned on connecting it to a ITR b pipe with either a GSR or type R cat. I have the stock exhaust manifold for now. My friend has a type R gutted cat that he was just gonna give me so i just wanted to know if i should go with it. Is your setup loud because i do not want mine loud at all. Do you have any resonators on it? Thanx again guys.

Yeah i guess thats true. I personally dont really give a **** about smog. Does the cat have anything to do with how the exhaust will sound? Does it quiet it down at all or does it just clean the air or whatever? Im just worried about how my car will sound without one. Anybody know about this?

You can get an O2 simulator which fools the ECU into thinking its getting a proper reading while in fact its getting proper voltage from the O2 sim. I have one in my car and I have NEVER gotten a CEL from it. The only drawback is that your car will idle somewhat erratic on cold start, RPM go from 700-1100 for about 30-40 seconds. Hey 5hp is 5hp more than what u have now and if your state doesnt have strict emissions laws like we do in Cali, do it. You can buy yours where I got mine http://www.diabloautosports.com or call 925 371-7222
