GSR ECU trouble
well, So i got a 96 Ek with a gsr swap..anyways, i was running a obd1 p72 with a boooslang jumper harness. Well, I dont like using those jumper harness things and never have, so I got ahold of a obd2a p72 ecu...so I unplug the boomslang and obd1 ecu and plug in the obd2a p72..wire up vtec and knock..so im thinking im ready for a test drive...So i go out for a quick drive to make sure it works, well I got to 6,800 rpm and it hits a rev limiter..I was like WTF??? So I unplug all the vtec wires considering maybe i screwed something up?? but it still hits a rev limiter at 6800 and wont let me go past..So i'm thinking the used ECU i got Maybe Chipped, so i open it up and nothing, just a normal looking inside of an ecu..any ideas guys????Im lost

bullshit...i have a obd2a p72 ECU...
barcode number on the side is 37820-p72-A02
970-101896
and the harness just creates a wire looking mess

Re: (GreyDel)
check to see if you have any codes. usually if you have one the ecu automatically goes into limp mode and doesnt let you go to redline because it might damage the motor

Re: (fmrprojects)
OK..i've checked for Codes, it throws a code for the secondary 02 sensor..I mentioned that before...I know the car would go into limp mode because of a 02 sensor..I know this because i've driven without one..but
the Rev limiter is encoded into the ECU, so you guys think its been tampered with???

Re: (GreyDel)
ok...well, I just got back from messing with it more...I put in a jdm type R ecu, (p73) and It came out of a working car, so I plug it in my Ek and go for a drive...It had vtec but hit a rev limiter at 6800rpm, WTF...stick it back in the R and it goes to 9 grand??? So next I try a LS ecu, well, of coarse vtec isnt going to work..but this one hits its normal rev limiter at 7200 or so...
so, im pretty lost at this point considering the ECu's are good, but somethings wrong with the harness or something..
BTW, I just replaced the coil, cap and rotor.. im sure that ties into it all some how

Your car is in limp mode.

he said he use a p73 ecu and it did the same. There for its not the ecu.
Why don't you just wire the 2nd O2?
Get everything wired like it supposed to be and come back with some feedback

Re: (Slamaccord)
well, I got the 2nd o2 wired up, and everything going good...so no check engine lights now...
then..i go for a drive, goes to 8 grand, then again, so I'm thinking YAY i fixed it...
well, as weird as this sounds, everytime i put the car in any gear 1-5 it goes to 8 grand and revs how it wants too. Well, after I put the car in reverse and back up..then put in first to take off...it hits a rev limiter at 6800 snd throws a code 22, vtec oil pressure switch..but it only comes on after i go into reverse...i go take the car to 8 grand and have vte work all day long as long as i dont go into reverse...but ias soon as i go into reverse..it throws the code...I know it sounds crazy and i've never heard of anything like this before..but why would it work just fine until i go into reverse?????thats what im lost on now???
