Random low idle, but doesn't die.
Cruising around, major loss of power, like a hiccup, then drives like normal. Happened 4-5 times within one mile from home.
My fuel gauge doesn't work, and I probably drive around with under 1/4 tank often.
Spent some time installing some fog lights and cleaning the car this weekend. While I was running wires, I got the idea to put the radio's USB line in the lighter. I had it going to the glove and didn't like it there.
I had a USB charger installed into the lighter socket, and figured I can strip the guts and install the radio's USB cord instead.
So I stripped the adapter and the lighter socket, ran the radio cord through the back of the lighter socket and put it into the USB adapter housing, then popped that into the lighter socket and all was done.
I didn't take any real pictures while tackling this, but here you can see the radio USB going into the back of the lighter socket, and the ipod cable plugged into the front.
And a shot with the covers back on and cleaned.
I disconnected the power going to the socket, and now want to install a couple USB chargers off that line, just have to figure out where I want the USB ports.
Been working on the car a little bit. Getting ready for smog and making it nicer to drive around.
Went to pick-n-pull and grabbed a bunch of stock parts I wanted. Bought an Integra shift lever, ICU module, and stock intake. I was missing an antenna, so I went ahead and picked one of those up as well.
It's smog time again, so off with the cheaply made noise makers, and install the ugly over engineered OEM parts. I actually like how the engine bay looks with all the stock stuff. Stock header makes some nice midrange power compared to the 4-1 I had in there, feels really nice as a daily right now. I installed a stock air intake from an Integra LS, including the pre-filter snorkel, and bought a new NAPA air filter. One thing you've got to like about OEM parts, they just work.
I had made a fancy shift extender, but the cheap cast aluminum ebay short shifter kept breaking on hard shifts. Well, it's been broken and repaired a few times, and was getting too short to be functional. So, I pulled a dual bend shifter from an Integra LS, ground it down to fit my linkage and installed it.
I've been tired of not having an intermittent wiper speed (CX chassis), so I searched the interweb for the solution to my frustrations. I found a simple guide that required almost no parts or thought, and I went for it. Since my combination switch had already been swapped for one with the "INT" wiper setting, I needed to pick-up what I guess is the brains of the operation from an Integra. So after swapping in one box for another, and moving a few wires around, I've been graced with wipers that are not too slow nor too fast.
I've had this battery tie down for the longest time, and have never used it because it's pink and didn't go with anything. Had an idea, and here it goes. Decided to just sand it and give it a brushed look. Some 120 sandpaper and a bit of thought, and it turned out to be fairly easy. Just took a lot of time to sand out the imperfections.

Pulled the battery and inspected everything around it. The battery tray is obviously in need of attention.
Pulled the tray and got as much rust off as I could in 10 minutes. I then coated the entire thing in a spray on rubber undercoating (for cars) and just encased all the rust I could. This will be a short term fix.
While I had the tray out, I decided to pull the fuse box as well and give it all a good cleaning. I like using this brush to get in and around everything that I can.
Found a little rust on the body. Guess I should make plans to fix that.
You can put a clear coat on after you're done. I didn't because I read some funny stuff happens and the clear can peel and chip off, and I wanted to be able to just touch-up the brushing if I wanted.
Maybe a wax coating would work against corrosion, and not chip and peel? I might have to try it out.
I'm still thinking about it. Gotta go find some matte clear and do a sample piece first. I've never done something like this to metal, I don't know what is best.
