Default Groaning noise from rear of 97 civic

97 civic EX, making a groaning type sound from the rear. At first i thought it was the rear passenger side shock, but I bounced it up and down and rocked the car, and no noise. After driving, it seems to do it when you lightly press down the gas, or let off. Right when the peddle is slightly depressed.

So i'm wondering if the fuel pump makings a groaning noise when it's starting to fail? Any other ideas?

Drive the car put it in 5th gear, let go of the gas peddle completely and turn the wheel from side to side a little and see if it makes the noise then. It could be your rear wheel bearings.

I tried this, it made no difference. It still just randomly makes a groaning noise. Go over bumpers don't make it groan either, its just when you are driving down the road, it seems to do it randomly.

My 2000 Civic EX does makes a noise like that too sometimes when I let off the gas at hwy speeds. I think it almost sounds like a Jake brake on a semi (exhaust engine brake) but WAY quieter.
