Grinding noise from newly installed caliper and rotor
Hey All,
So i recently changed out my caliper and rotor on the passenger side, after installation i was getting this grinding noise, but when i would drive faster it would go away, after a maybe 60kms the noise went unnoticed but would soon come back after getting off a hwy i would come to use the brakes then hear that same grinding noise. so i finally got time to check it out. look and what i see on the caliper !!
seems as though the rotor diameter isn't to spec. Now, would you say the rotor wasn't manufactured properly ? or is the caliper at fault ? i put on another rotor of the same make and model number and i'm not getting that grinding noise at all.
let me know

ABS rotors are slightly larger than non-ABS rotors. If you accidentally bought mismatched parts (i.e., ABS rotor and a non-ABS caliper), that would explain the groove it's cutting into the caliper.
Iirc, the non-ABS rotors are 240mm. The ABS rotors are about 20mm larger, I think.

thank you, i didn't know the caliper came in abs and non abs. my car does have abs and i know i have the 262mm rotor, i guess i'll go back to the store to ask them about it.
thanks again.
thanks again.

the rotors....that are silent, did you match them to yours that cut the groove in that caliper?

It's about the only explanation that I can think of. Also, like red3mturbo suggested, overlay your old rotors on top of your new rotors. Make sure they're the same diameter. If they're not, measure the old ones with a tape measure or something and make sure you get the right ones.

i actually did put them on top of each other and didn't see a difference between the two. i did however notice one spot of the "bad" rotor that has more discolouration (maybe a hot spot). i'll post a pic up when i get a chance.
