Default Is this good compression??

I did a compression test on my B16A Sir-II motor and its 145-150-150-155

I let the car crank about 3-4 times on each cylinder. I saw someone elses numbers and they were like 180!

Are these right numbers for my motor?

let it crank some more untill it stops going up.... then if there still low pour a lil oil (capful) into each cyl when your going to check it and if it goes up alot higher then you have probs with your rings

Was the motor warmed up before the compression test? They don't differ a lot from cylinder to cylinder which is good, but they do seem low..

I tested my brother's 1st gen XSi B16A when I put the engine in, and it was 200-210 in all cylinders. Of course the motor was from an automatic car, so I doubt it was abused much. The CRX VTEC helm supplement says:

nominal: 185 psi
min: 135 psi
max. variation: 28 psi

Should be the same as your 2nd gen motor. So at least you're still in spec...

Thanks for the prompt replys guys =D

The car was warmed up and I cranked it until the compression tester stopped jumping around on the valve cover (like i said, maybe 3-4 cranks)...

So the numbers are low, that sucks. Does less compression mean less HP?

Also, Im reading the c-speedracing guide, and they say it is "very important that you press the gas pedal to the floor". Makes sense since I did it with just the clutch in... >_<

They did a test on an 11.6:1 motor and got 250psi, but their B18C1 yeilded 185.

I'll try it again tomarrow and see if the results are any different.
Thanks again,
-Jonah

i believe you should let it crank like 7 or 8 times. thats what the crappy haynes manual said to do. make sure its at normal operating temp, and yes it does make a difference if you are at wide open throttle or not. try it again and see what happens...
