I have also wonder the same about 97 civic d16y7.
Really easy for me to think of a swap option. My 97 civic has 422k miles.

The y7 has about 80-85 WHP. 422K miles ? probably more in the 75-80 area you can start a thred tho even at 1 post.

Yea prolly less.. But I did just install a t belt and head and a couple of other things running alright. Going to try and make it to half a million miles.

You can get 200 out of it, with a shitload of work and deep pockets. Sleeves, 14:1~ compression, massive cams, full race porting, and a carefully balanced rotating assembly. It'll make 200, and it won't idle for ****.

Now why are we still having this discussion?

only one d series has hit 172hp all motor and that was a bisimoto build i believ and that was with steel sleeves installed and punched to the max of 72mm pistons and a stage 3 bisi cam..... stock bore or .20 over is only gonna net you in the 135-140hp tops to the wheels.... hell even b16's are having trouble making 200hp N/A...

Just do a Frankenstein build that's what i would do

200whp D's exist, apexi. Bisi isn't the God of all things SOHC - people do it better than he does without having to go over-seas.

Is it possible? Yes.
Is it fiscally feasable? No.
Will it be drivable anywhere except a drag strip? No.
Will it stand a chance on the strip in it's class? **** no.

What kind of frankenstines can you make with a d? I've heard of the z6 head on a y8 block...i think.

If you boost it you'll have alot of fun. Im trying to figure out now if i wanna boost my d16y7 with 156k or if i wanna drop in a low mileage ls then boost that. My car is more of a show and shine than it is a performance vehicle but boost is just fun!

My biggest and best advise IMO is honestly to replace that oil pump ASAP. every d series i have ever owned has died at 180-200k from oil starvation... d15b 200k, d16z6 189k and my d16y8 at 186k.... do a oil pump cheap and easy insurance on the motor your Waiting to build...

Frankenstein swaps are also silly, especially since you already have a vtec head. You can easily reach 200 with a small turbo setup, which you can piece together yourself for less than $2000 if you shop smart. If you want to reach the 300 mark, you'll need pistons and rods. 350/400 mark, head work and a cam. 500+ mark, a fully built motor. Figure out exactly what you want before you start buying parts, because the right turbo and manifold for a 200-300whp build isn't going to do a damn thing past 300, and the right turbo for the 350+ range is going to be a paperweight down at 200.

so your telling me bisi is just an avg builder? what a joke i know other people have done it of course.... he has the money assesible to make insane builds. its engine building basics .. no replacement for displacement and head flow means alot. and on pump gas even honda has not past the 11:1 ratio... 11:7 is probably feasible anything higher i would not run without sum kind of meth injection....

Bisi may be able to build a motor but his parts are crap lol. Having an unlimited budget isn't something the OP has so saying it is possible is pointless because with what the OP said he had to work with makes it almost impossible for him.

i work for the best buy help desk and have a couple hundred a month to put into the car..so no...no unlimited budget..lol

but i am gonna boost. I have been convinced. Don't want to dump hella cash into it for a little bit of fun.

Read grumblemarc's sig if you truely want to boost. He has all the info you'll need.

I'd suggest a Swap because it will give you the extra power you are after and also provide you a better base to work with if you decide you want more power then. Just my 2 cents
