little dx that could

Ok so as the title says. its a ls motor not sure b18a or b18b. what should i look for so tell if its a good motor or junk. i've never bought a motor and dont want to buy a piece of junk. i work with the guy selling it but i dont know him to well. (and if for some odd reason you are reading this no offense ha ha ha) I believe its just motor to trans for 300 bucks. so any help would be apprieciated. i'll take some picks and post them after i look at it. thanks in advance

pull the valve cover to check the oil and inspect the head. kinda hard to see if anything is internally broken unless you pull the head, but you can spin the crank to see if it rotates with compression (spark plugs in it).

get b18b if your gonna get ls.. its newer.. also check the inside of the valve cover by unscrewing the cap and look for dirty, really black oil, or sludge... avoid those.. remember an engine can look really dirty on the outside but really low miles on the inside..

b18a came off of DA integra.. older model.. b18b came off of 94-01 integras.. otherwise DC integras..

I think the only difference is in the heads..
The blocks are identical i believe, correct me if im wrong.
The b18b heads had better flow, maybe slightly more aggresive cams..

thanks guys. ya the supposly its on a stand right now and it was a spare motor he had. ya i'll check compression and make sure the crank spins nicely. what about ecu and wiring harness what will i need. i also heard that my shift rods wont work with a b series trans is this true?
