Girlfriend just bought a 96 Lx
Yeah, hey everyone I am knew here and did some searching but cant find the specs on the 1996 LX motor. I know it is a D16 but that is it. Is there anything I can do to this D16 without swaping the motor. Like can I put the EX heads on the block or something like that? Also what OBD is this 1996? If I cant change heads I would like to drop in the 99 SI motor, is that possible and also have it pass emissions? I know some of these you guys have been asked before but I am doing my best with your search and google.

what kind of power gain are you looking for? ....yes you can swap an ex head on there. And 96 is obd2. you're not going to see a big difference.I dont know what emissions is like out there in Arizona.

They can offer more help for AZ emissions and what not. I would just drop a B Series into it.

putting a vtec head on a non-vtec engine is called "mini me" since your car is obd2 you can use any head from a 96-00 civic ex which has the d16y8 but you'd have to use the computer from the donor car, wire up the vtec, etc... also the gearing from the ex tranny is a lot better than the lx. There are some how to's on here if you search for them.

Correct.
Your car is OBD2, and putting the y8 head on it would give you some decent power. Although, I would swap out the entire motor all together.

If you're looking for fairly cheap speed you can buy a D16Y8 (I think. I'm OBD-I running a Z6). I'm about to buy/split a complete D16Z6 swap w/ motor and tranny for $350 minus the ECU.
Everyone says to go B series, but I think a D series would fit the needs of most people. I don't want to spend $1000 for 40/50 extra HP. Yes, you have an assload more potential, but most peoples goals are achievable w/ a built D series (Mine are, 250/300hp)

Re: Girlfriend just bought a 96 Lx (sohc_boy)
So if I want 250 hp what can i do that is the cheapest? I was thinking EX tranny/ecu/heads with a decent cam and either a turbo kit or just intake and exhaust. What are the injector size of a LX civic and are they the same as the Ex.

You Sir seem like the one that is making this a big deal.
I know you are the **** because you have or had or one day drove a 300 zx twin turbo.
Here is how i feel about 300zx TT's, they are heavy, Hard to work on, overpriced and, overhyped by nissan enthusiasts. Most of the ones i've worked on have had low mileage and they still leak like more than any DSM (being a former DSM owner). Furthermore when i had my DSM i walked on numerous heavy *** leaky 300zx tt's.
Now i am not ragging on the car because i have owned numerous nissans and they are great cars and the tt's can see over 1000 HP but those are few and far between, much like intelligent posts from your N00b ***!
