Getting a 96+ civic? What to look for?
I am new to the civic/sport compact world. I am looking to trade my car in because it just isnt fun to drive anymore. I drive an Impala and it is tooo big. I want a 5spd.
Right now im looking to get a 96+ civic coupe EX w/ 5spd.
What should I look for when looking at the cars?
Miles?
Known problems?
anything else that I should know?
thanks alot

well im assuming you know how to drive 5 speed take it for a test drive,
1.make sure it goes in and out of all the gears smooly
2.check to see how far you have to let off the clutch before it starts catching, if you put the clutch to the floor and you only have to let off a inch or so before it starts catching then the car is going to need a new clutch witch you can basicly add another 600 dollars to the price of the car if you dont know how to do it yourself, but if the clutch catches when your about to let off the peddal then the clutch is good,
3.ask them what maintness has been done to the car water pump, timing belt, brakes and ask for receipts,
4.look under the hood and check for oil where the head meets the block if theres oil ull need a new head gasket
5.get the vin run a carfax if you know anyone with an account
6.look at the tires see how good/bad they are
7. if you notice any of these things are bad tell them and try to negotiate them down on the price if they wont budge then walk away the car is prob more touble than its worth.
if anyone wants to add to these things i normally look at feel free to

most importantly is does the tranny shift good and does the car smoke excessively and of course engine leaks.. if it does any of these three things cut that car from your list right away so u save yourself the money and the headache
