Default Gas Switch over to 91 to 87

My car info: 97 Civic Hatch w/ 97 Itr Full Swap

Story: I let my sister borrow my car yesterday and the gas was low and I always pump 91 premium, but when she came home she told my she had pump 87 (unleaded). I heard stories that it can mess up the motor, is this true, HELP ME! What should I do?!?

It can mess up the motor but one tank full of 87 won't hurt it. When the gas was impossible to get in atlanta a few years ago i had to run 87 in my high comp d16 for two weeks, it was fine just a slight ping under hard acceleration.

Throw some octane additive in the tank. No need to panic.

is it needed when there was already a little of the 91 in the tank, because it was only pumped half a tank of 87

I don't want to tell you yes or no. I couldn't tell you. It was just a suggestion. I don't loan out my car, not even to my wife, so I never had to balance octane in a gas tank before. If you want to further "dilute" the 87 then fill it up with 91.

If it's a stock ITR running a stock ITR ECU with a knock sensor I wouldn't worry about it all, if it starts to knock under load the ECU will just retard the timing, if it's running on a chipped OBD1 ECU with no knock sensor i still wouldn't be overly concerned, but I might through some octane booster in the tank or if it the tank is only say half full fill the rest with 91.
