Front Speaker Installation 92-95 Civic (Pics)
So once the car audio "expert" at best buy told me I had to get a (cheesy looking) new Deck if I planned on getting "any new speakers" and quoted me at $450 for the whole process I decided to order speakers online for $99 total and install them myself. Thought I'd throw up some pictures of the process. enjoy!

Glad to see you didn't let them rip you off. Most aftermarket decks don't have good amps anyway, your stock head unit with a nice four way amp and speakers would sound great, and it's good even without an amp if you don't want anything super loud.
I also have had Polk dbs in my front doors for 6 years (97 Civic DX) and they're still sounding good!

nice!! yea i just hate the look of everything stock/old looking and then this brand new electronic deck that looks so out of place. plus with the invention of ipod through the radio I have literally no need to upgrade anything

Hmm ... those instructions you had ... were they printed off separately, specifically for a 5th Gen 4-dr Civic? Because the diagram is exactly from a Civic. Just wondered if that was a funny coincidence or not.

Crutchfield includes vehicle specific instructions with all car audio purchases, I don't know if that's what the OP had, but it looks like it. If you are new to car audio, their materials are really helpful.

yea i got em off crutchfield....but the instructions were misleading b/c if you look it says you can just pop off the speaker cover but in reality you have to take the whole door off to fit the speaker in so that wasted my time. but one thing they included that was vital and i took a picture of it was the foam spacer that wrapped around the speaker. Without that the speaker wouldn't have fit in. not sure if the spacer is crutchfield specific or not but they def are necessary.

i had some sony component speakers down there for my 2door ej1, idk if the 6.5 in speaker was oddly shaed but it would not clear the edges of the hole in the speaker mount. i had to rig it in there and now it doesnt sit flush, it angles up towards the seats.
i was just wandering if some ej1's came with 5.25 front speakers cause my 6.5's fit like ****

You can put them in without removing the door panel, I've done it before, but it's really hard to get at that top screw, you have to put the screwdriver at a pretty severe angle.

They're all 6.5" round. You need to use a shallow basket speaker for them to fit right, or do some serious triming of the plastic ring the speaker mounts too (sometimes you have to cut the back out, sometimes you also have to enlarge the hole in the center) Pioneer actually makes a half decent set of 6.5" round speakers that actually fit quite nicely without any modifications.

Re: Front Speaker Installation 92-95 Civic (Pics)
stock
I mean everything else in the car (stereo wise) is stock so its obviously nothing mindblowing but the speakers are def clear, crisp and loud. I'd rebuy them if put back in the situation, except off amazon this time instead of crutchfield, considering the directions off crutchfield were pretty pointless and amazons are like $30 bucks cheaper

I would run at least a Alpine deck. Stock head unit won't do you much good with upgraded speakers.

Use what you got and save up for a entry level Alpine deck(mp3/ipod). That's the only deck I would buy/use.
