He just got his swap and needed a new ecu, so we plugged in the ecu and the car started pretty normal sounding and the cel threw a code 31: Automatic Transmission Signal "B"- Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor...can someone explain this one a little bit more in depth please?? thankyou

obviously he does not have an automatic transmission, and it would only throw this code if it was an auto ecu but there is no auto tranny found.. what ecu are you guys using?? more info pleeeze

well thats the thing, the ecu has b18c written on it in marker, but it is in a different shape than the old ecu that he had....which we were worried about when we got it...but i swear it throws a code 31, despite it being a stick tranny...so that would mean that the ecu is for an automatic? if u put an auto ecu in a manual car, would the cel go on like this and throw a 31?

not sure of which ecu is definitely is..gotta find that out...

there is a stamp sticker with a barcode on the side of the ecu, a jdm ecu is quare, usdm is longer so im guessing you have a jdm one but read the #s ontop of the bar code and that will tell what ecu you really have, i believe there are jdm auto gsr's but not here in the states, see if your ecu says P72 on the side.

i think you might be getting 21 instead of 31 but who knows..

well it clearly showed three long blinks and one short one...i dont have the ecu here so i cant check those numbers just yet..ill get back to you...but i remember them saying that the ecu looked longer or larger than the one he had

yeah def find out the ecu # on the side, also is this the only code he is getting? how does the car run overall doh? i mean it should still drive fine if this is the only code its not gonna cause anything i wouldnt think..

dunno yet..he just started it and thats it, cause the timing belt squeals so he must need a new one, but otherwise it sounds and revs fine after the belt stops screetching initially

OK....the ecu is square shaped totally and it says under the barcode:

Then written on it in marker is:
"B18C

D-2
1002668"
