Default Fitting an S2000 digital dash?

Guys,

I'm a big fan of the S2000 but money dictates that I can't get one yet . So I'm gonna have to make do with my 1997 Civic hatch (b16a) for now.

However, there's a salvage yard near me who have 6 wrecked S2000's breaking for parts. I can get the engine start button and digital dash pretty cheap.

I've been toying with the idea of fitting the digital dash to my Civic, but I really haven't researched it at all. There's nothing to be found on the web or newsgroups on an installation like this. Anyone here ever done it, or seen it? What kind of differences are there between the Civic/S2000 dashes in terms of shape, connections, etc? The starter button should be a doddle, but the dash has the potential to go ape if fitted wrong!

I'd appreciate it if I don't get a lot of criticism over wanting to do this ....... we don't really have many modified Hondas (or 'ricers' here in Ireland) so any modifying is good modifying

Gaz

A guy here in Atlanta has an S2000 gauge cluster in his eg hatch. Everything works except the speedo because the Vehicle Speed Sensor is different. He went to the Honda dealer and got the schematic for the cluster so he could wire it up in his civic.

Good luck. Take pics and write up a How to for the 6gen.

I say go for it, I mean if you have hard time fiting the S2000 dash at least you can resell it

Why? Oh, you said why, but it will NOT work. The guy from ATL is a pal of mine and he sold the cluster because it didn't work and it wasn't going to work from what he was telling me.

This guy has gotten a GS-R dash to fit pretty damn good before, and he's gotten some other off-the-wall shiit to fit on his car, so he is definately paitient and even the S2000 cluster pissed him off.

NOT everything worked. The ONLY thin that did work was the tach - none of the other shiit worked at all. The temp was always cold, the gas was always full, and the speedo didn't work either.

If it was possible, he would have done it for sure. I am not trying to squash your dreams, but this guy who tried it is one of the most patient and engenuitive people when it comes to "rigging" shiit up, and if he couldn't get it to work, then I doubt other normal joe-blows will be able to either.

you never know unless you tried ..

but there are digital guage cluster (LCD screen) for eg/ek in japan ....

i read it in a HK magazine few weeks ago ....

i believe they are .... 158000

but that for racing use ... a bit overkill for the streets .. but it definately is very cool ...

this is their website .. press parts and you will see it ...

a pic installed into a civic i believe ... http://www.maxracing.co.jp/main/parts/ddr/0002.jpg

sounds like a lot of trouble.. would be a very tight looking dash tho.. having the redline at 9k would throw me off sometimes tho.. just go w/ a GSR or ITR dash.. i did the install today and think it looks damn good and everything works the correct way..

Thanks for the advice guys.

I'm getting a schematic from Honda for the S2000 and Civic wiring systems. I'll give it a good lookover and decide then if its worth doing or not.

Frostee - I haven't forgotten about the bumpers, but I'm waiting on word back from 3 or 4 different places who can supply them in bulk. Sorry I didn't get back to you, been up to my eyes in work!!! It will be a coupla weeks before I can organise shipping and numbers, but I'm definitely up for doing this. Soon as I have definite confirmations, I'll be in touch with you

The Vehicle Speed Sensor is the key to making it all work correctly. If you can get the voltage from the Civic VSS to the S2K speedo, you'll be all set. I think Shane never figured this part out. As for the other sensors, it's just a matter of sending voltage. The EK chassis and the AP chassis share steering wheel splines so there might be more that are in common electronics-wise. Have to see the schematics though.

GAZ- If you can scan in the S2k schematics, I'll look them over for you and see if I can help. Just email them to me. :D

Bah, they're cool but keep it simple. For me a si cluster should do nicely.
