Finished my Mini-me setup today....a few notes and whatnot
I had a rod knock in my stock z6 when i bought it, so i descided to make a mini-me while i rebuild the z6. After a bit of previous experience with my last d15b2/d16y8 setup i descided to build a d15b7/d16z6. Since i had all of the vtec parts and wiring on my car already i descided to just swtich blocks.
Bought an entire d15b7 for $75....i probably paid too much but i got alot of extras ith it...IE axles, short shifter, and other misc stuff to sell.
A few notes from the swap for others to learn from.....
- before building a MINI-ME run your tank low to empty on gas.....I am a jackass and forgot to do this, only had 75 miles on my tank of 89 octane.
- THE BEST WAY to take out the pin in the shift linkage......AIR HAMMER! dont know how many people use the pin and hammer deal like i used to but i used an air hammer with a custom tip on it the size of the pin. workds awesome...in and out in a minute instead of bitching and cursing under the car.
- the d16z6 PS mount didnt not bolt up with all 4 bolts, the bolt where it mounts to the head did not line up by roughly 1/4".
- the d16z6/d15b7 is nowhere near as fast as a d15b2/d16y8 on the butt dyno....i will have some track times as soon as i get it running perfect to compare to my old mini-me setup.
- my d15b2/d16y8 mini-me ran a 2050lb 89 4 door to a 15.6 @89 with an 89 dx tranny, crush bent 2-1/4" exhaust, and K&N filter in a cut filter box.
- my new setup will be run with stock exhaust, intake box from the previous setup, d16z6 tranny, d16z6 head intake manifold and exhaust manifold with a d15b7 bottom end.
-It was easier to tune out ping in this setup compared to the old one.....i can guess that has to do with the ecu running vtec and having vtec fuel maps where the last setup had an msd rpm activated switch and a d16a6 ecu.
as i think of more i will add it.

Interesting...you say the Z6/B7 feels slower than the B2/Y8 on the butt dyno? I ran my Z6/B7 with DX tranny in a 2300 lb 4 door 15.9@86 (see full slip and setup in sig)...so I figure with a Z6 tranny that would be a good mid-low 15...I like to hear about other peoples experiences with mini-me's

Yeah, check out Dustin's mini-me thread in his signature. Has a LOT of information if you might need more. I have been in Dustins car with the B7/Z6 setup and it is pretty good for being basically stock. We used a Z6 Intake and Exhaust Manifold to go with the Z6 head. Z6 tranny is sitting in dustins garage awaiting a clutch. I was surprised the motor went that fast (15.9) with VERY few modifications...

Re: Finished my Mini-me setup today....a few notes and whatnot (b16a ferio)
i will be putting some premium gas in today and a new passengers side axle, hopefully running at the track this week if i can get the detonation down.
ok so after driving it a few more miles last night...well a whole mess of miles last night....she has less low end torque than the b2/y8, that is for sure, but it goes through the revs a whole lot faster (z6 tranny probably), i could be mistaken but it feels faster than the full on z6 did. i am a little disappointed in the torque though. the z6 and b2/y8 had more torque. that also could be my minimal amount of tuning so far.
what do you think the best electronic tool would be to get my fuel pressure dialed in and whatnot? and i am thinking an adjustable cam gear to try and get the timing more dead on. anyone with a mini-me let me know what your setup us.

Well, for tuning I would suggest getting something like the B&M Fuel Pressure Regulator, a cam gear, and then either something like Hondata S100 and get some dyno tuning done, or just a VAFC and either dyno tune that or butt-dyno that. If you don't want a tuning device that is too complicated to play with then just get the VAFC because the Hondata S100 won't be able to be tuned by you unforunately...

i've got the b&m on there now running 40psi at idle, only 5 psi over stock so far, getting preium today to do my timing.
where should i run the timing? should i run it retarded or dead on stock or what.
im going to post about a cam gear as soon as i get some cash.
