Fan wont quit running!
Hi all. Hope someone can help. My wifes car is a 2000 Civic EX - no mods. Car currently throws a P1457. Anyways.. A few days ago, the fan starts running. As soon as we turn the car on, fan starts running. All the time, driving, idleing, warmed up. I checked the coolant in the resivour (sp) and it was low. I filled that and still the fan runs. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for the help

p1457 is Evaporative Emission control system leak detected. Make sure all your vacuum connections are good and your fuel cap is on tight. Then reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for about 10 mins. When you start it back up, let the car idle for another 10 mins, but do not touch the gas or the brakes.

Re: Fan wont quit running! (90blackcrx)
Thanks for the reply on the P1457. I did searching on that but did not see the "let the car idle for 10 minutes without touching anything". I did tighten gas cap and reset computer but then immediately took it for a drive. Ill give this a shot. I was mostly concerned with the fan running immediately after the car starting. It seems that - that problem would be worse than the P1457?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

first, disconnect the temp switch (right near the thermostat housing/lower radiator hose, two pin connector). if fan turns off it's likely a faulty switch. next, try swapping out the fan relays, just swap out the one for the condensor fan to the radiator fan (fuse box under hood, right side of the box)....
I would be much more concerned if the fan wasn't running at all
btw, is the car even getting up to temp? You may also want to check that there's fluid in the radiator, not just in the reservoir.
