Failed smog...some help please....
Well, I failed earlier today and it says "Gross Polluter". I suppose that goes on the car's records? They passed the ECU checkup stuff and visuals, but it failed the sniffer.
2000 Civic Si
Mods:
Greddy Turbo Kit
440cc injectors
Hondata 3b with p28 ECU
Custom exhaust setup with Carsound Cat...
Car has been tuned...
Here are the results.
15 mph: 2085 RPM
HC (PPM): MEAS: 167 (Max: 64) Failed
CO (%): MEAS: 0.87 (Max: 0.55) Failed
NO (PPM): MEAS: 2195 (Max: 477) Failed
25 mph: 2371 RPM
HC (PPM): MEAS: 73 (Max: 47) Failed
CO (%): MEAS: 0.17 (Max: 0.54) Passed
NO (PPM): MEAS: 659 (Max: 764) Passed
The car was warmed up, then it sat for about 25-30 minutes since there were other people there.
Now I have searched and read that I should have the CAT warmed good before the testing and keep the car running while I'm waiting in line...
Any ideas what I can do to make it pass besides puttting everything back to stock?
Thanks...I hope I can figure this out.

you could change out the pcv valve, and o2 sensors, or run that guaranteed to pass additive. I did and my civic passed with some ratty *** o2 sensors ( original from when i bought the car back in 96) and the timing was slightly off too.

Get a OEM cat!
A carsound cat IS NOT OBD2 legal!
You must have an OBD2 cat, they work to reduce the emissions much more than an OBD1 car, which is what a carsound cat is.

were you seriously expecting to pass with this setup?
obd1 computer in an obd2 car? [chandler] so not happening... [/chandler]
i can't believe they even put it on the rollers. the smog i just went to plugged into the obd2 port first thing, to make sure my swap was legit. how can they get the proper readings with an obd1 ecu?
not knocking your setup, just the thought of it passing smog.
good luck.

Re: (Marauder)
yah the cats probably it right there.
if you have an aftermarket exhaust-it says that their E.O numbers are void if any other portion of the exhaust system is modified (i.e the cat) im surprised you passed visual with that mod alone.
so id put the stock cat back on...check all the sensors that powerban suggested...maybe run some injector cleaner also.
the greddy kit is CARB legal for sure...maybe crank down the boost and lean out the fuel curve
i know that CARB got very restrictive on emissions. a friend of mine was complaining about the .55ppm level for CO for his lude...when supposedly a stock lude puts out .54 from the factory

Re: Failed smog...some help please.... (FBP Si 2000)
There was a way to bypass that OBD port checkup thing...at least that's what I think...since the tech said something about it, then he still went on about his business.
I guess I should just pull the whole exhaust system off and put the stock pieces back on. That should help...?

The stock cat will make a huge improvement!

yah put on the stock cat and exhaust-you can remove them again after you pass and run the other cat and whatever aftermarket exhaust you have.
or just put on the cat. for the most part the after cat exhaust shouldnt modify emissions if any at all.
also-like i said...crank down the boost and lean out the car. the less fuel you burn the cleaner the readings.
aside from the recommended suggestions of checking the sensors-because they could be fouling up your results as well.
