F20B But what kind?

F20B But what kind?
Hello all,
I'm brand new to this whole "honda tuner" thing as of about 3 months ago when I bought a 99 Civic hatch with an F20b + LSD Transmission. Shocked the hell out of me when I test drove it on how fast it was so I had to get it.
I was wondering is there a way beside dyno that I can tell wether I got the 180hp automatic f20b or the 200hp manual? I've heard most people are taking automatic f20b's and riggin them up with manuals and lying saying they are the 200hp version. Anything I can look at to confirm?
Also I paid $4,500 for it. Too much? My friends were telling me at the time that the engine and tranny alone are 4 grand, but then come to find out you can find the setup for around 2k elsewhere on the net. I've also heard that just cause it's a 99 hatch it's "rare" and for the body alone I can pretty much get what I ask for it. Opinions?
Thanks.

Re: F20B But what kind?
take it to the dyno and test what you have on, you can't not rigg hp by switching tranny, and probably auto tranny lose more hp than manual tranny.
F20 is a pretty good engine but there is a down fall on it because less performance parts for it.

Roger.
And as for what I paid?? You guys think that was a fair price? Motor has about 80k on it (or so he said) And the interior and exterior is in great condition.
Also I've heard it readlines stock anywhere from 7200 RPM to 8000RPM. Could anyone clear that up for me and why the different claims?

I have an F20B installed in my 96 accord and from what i understand redlines at 7200rpm but does goes to 8000rpm still pullin. As far as bein able to tell the difference from auto to manual motors, i've heard the throttle body on the manual is 62mm and the auto is only like 58mm. The auto still has 180hp though..not bad, but not 200hp the manual has. $4k seems like a lot to me. I've seen the combos online for like 2500ish and I went with just the motor....delivered to my door for $750.

Price is good. 99-00 hatch still goes around 2-4k+, swap about 2k+, and 99-00 hatch are not that rare but nobody want to sell it.. I wish I didn't have to sell mine.
Priceless if your in love with your car.

But given the labor? I didn't install anything.
And it's got k-sport adjustable shocks, apexi catback exhaust, all around disk breaks, DC sport headers, some kinda of racing clutch (I only know because my brother replaced the starter and it's got a blue fly wheel.)

Re: F20B But what kind?
my brother bought a clean title em1 with a blown b16 and an LSD. found the receipt for the LSD and the guy paid 1800 at the dealership. if you think about it, yeah you got a great deal because the tranny is a nice piece on its own.
who cares how much you paid, do you like the car? that's all that matters dude! the money is spent, so enjoy your whip. i'd say you got a good deal, though. pics???

i feel for you guys on the rust issue. it's hard to imagine any car, let alone a civic, have rust. the only time i've ever seen rust on a car down here was a crx si that spent it's like by the beach. even then it only had rust on some nuts and bolts. other than that, it was spotless...

Re: F20B But what kind?
Thanks spoon very helpful. So... If I were to buy some new cams for my f20b what kind should I get? And I've heard that some cams allow you to redline up to 9krpm?! With only a cam upgrade would that be "safe" on my motor?

Re: F20B But what kind?
If your redline is set at 7200, it won't go past it even if you have cams that'll rev up to 9kRPM. Clean ride though, i like it. Personally, i'm not a fan of the black grill and lip. I like them paint matched but if you like it, more power to you.

Re: F20B But what kind?
set at 7200? Is this a manufacturer setting? And ECU setting? I've taken it to 7500 rpms a couple times when shifting seeing how fast my car will go... I think it'll go farther than that.
My understanding was that if you take it past the recommended rpms you will blow your motor.
Also thanks for the props. It's still in the works. I got a brand new front and back bumper and lip. Then I'll get it painted... The carbon fiber grille is gonna match the hood, match the top, match the hatch. Like i said it's a work in progress. I've only spent maybe 4 weeks with it.

I'm goin to have to agree with him here!!! **** you know you like the car...that's why you bought it. Four grand...**** honestly i don't think that's bad at all. You have a nice motor swap, fully adjustable coilovers, rear disc conversion, dc sports header. What kind of tranny you running under there again? I don't think it matters if the motor was from an auto or manual...as long as you have a 5 spd to go with that you should be ok. I'm also thinkin about doing this to my sedan so let me know what kind of tranny would best fit this for NA.

Re: F20B But what kind?
I love the CAR! I can't lie! And honestly 4500 isn't **** when I was lookin at 25k bmw 745... It was really just a "for right now" car while I was on leave.
I plan on putting some new Si bucket seats in at some point and time. Like I said I'm new to this honda scene so I'm not sure how that'd work out, but it seems very do-able.

Re: F20B But what kind?
i paid 1500canadian 3 years ago for just my f20b it was an auto motor . I think for 4500 buy an h22 and spend the extra on mods. I loved my f20b and it was different. but now that h22 are so cheap i would go that route
