exhaust sound changing with header?
this is just a quick thought that crossed my mind,
but i was wondering if i installed a usdm 4-1 header along wtih my apexi n1 catback, if it would alter the sound of my exhaust a bit? if so, in what way? deeper, louder, etc.?
i know most of you would tell me to ditch the usdm header, and go for the jdm style header or something with a 2.5" collector. i had a jdm header installed, and it was damn loud with the n1. i actually got a ticket with it. so now i want something that is carb legal. but anyway, i just specifically want to know about the usdm header please.
also, as a little side topic, what would the power gains be with a usdm 4-1 header? i know they'll be less than a jdm or one with a 2.5" collector would put out, but i would just like to know. this is for a internally stock b16a engine.
anyway, thanks in advance to those that can help me here.

mine was very raspidy (or however u spelll it) haha
It changed the sound on ALL my cars i put a header on. The 4-1's have more of a rasp sound though.

Re: (JICEK9)
the header should make the car louder simply because u will have a lot more air flowing throught the exhaust.
especially for those that have their catalytic converters located on their stock headers (which therefore have it removed when adding the aftermarket)....it will become too loud

Re: (mixxed)
thanks for the replies guys. i just want to make sure of one thing..
you guys are referring to the usdm header right? i just want to make sure, because this is the type that is in question. not the jdm or 2.5" versions.
i was just curious because the collector size of the usdm header is (from what i've read and heard) the stock size of 2". so i'm just wondering if it would alter it in anyway. anyway, thanks for the help.

haha, yeah good point. good thing he didn't check my hood when i got pulled over. phew.

Re: (USDMDC2)
4-1 header improves top end hp but diminishes low end torque...I still can't decide if the extra top end pull is worth killing the already weak low end.
I have a 4-2-1 with stock exhaust, the motor itself is louder, but not the same the kind of loud you'd get I you had an aftermarket exhaust. More of a motor sound, hard to explain....

Re: (n1si00)
a header shouldn't make it so loud that you get a ticket, after i installed my jdm header on my b16 it was super loud and i hated it until i realized i didn't put the gasket on from my oem header at the spot where my exhaust and header meet and it got way quieter and got somelost performance, needless to say i felt like a retard i don't know what'swrong with your setup, just telling you what my prob was, hope it helps
