Default Exhaust Rasp Help

I just got my 98 Civic HX and it's to raspy for my liking. My current setup is:

DC 4-2-1 Header
"AEM" Intake (Later found out it was a knockoff)
RandomTech High Flow Cat
And this.... thing.

Now, what would you guys suggest to reduce the rasp? I was thinking if I replace the muffler I might be able to get away with it, using something like a OBX twin loop. I'm only looking for a muffler, trying to keep it under 200.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Really, that looks kinda like an OEM replacement muffler with a tip on it.

Do you have a resonator between the cat and the muffler? Normally, there's a resonator there, and if it was taken out and replaced with a straight pipe, it'll cause a raspy exhaust.

I think a plain old magnaflow will probably be better quality than the OBX, but the OBX twin loop would probably be fine.

Also, the Apexi world sport 2 or Noir axlebacks would sound good, and under 200. If you don't have a resonator though, I'd start there.

I was thinking that the resonator could have been the problem. From my experience with tC's, it's hard to escape rasp with a header unless you run a 30" resonator. If I ran something like a 18" resonator with the twin loop, would that help?

Possibly, but unfortunately then you're starting to get out of your budget. You can probably piece one together on the cheap, but someone else could probably give you better input on that than me... I've heard of a lot of people running Magnaflow, Thrush, or Cherry Bomb resonators with a stock back section, or a Magnaflow or something, and they supposedly sound very good. The OBX Twin Loop is decent for the price, but it is a cheap muffler, and may not hold up the way you want it to.

You could probably do a setup like that fairly cheap. There's no reason a header should add a ton of rasp to a civic though if the rest of the exhaust is properly muffled. Not having a resonator with a highflow cat will add rasp though. Almost guaranteed.

The best solution is usually to buy a complete catback that sounds good to you to begin with... but you won't get that for under $400. If you do that, you can never go wrong with the Apexi WS2, and you can find them for around $400 shipped.

I'm still exploring my options. I'm looking to do the resonator and new muffler idea instead of replacing the entire system, but I'm not sure where to start looking, as far as what muffler will quiet it down the most.

get the twin loop and a magna flow 22" resonator added in there and your set for a nice sound. my buddy has it on hi b16 and its quiet with a deep tone. you could possibly have the mid section modified so you wont have to pay for all new pipe

Alright, I think I'm convinced on the twin loop. Would it be best for an 18" or 22" resonator?

It should. Atleast in my opinion a OBX twin loop is better than any other generic ebay knock off. Of course the OBX is a mugen knock off...but atleast its the best knock off...LoL

you can add a resonator or get a silencer to put in the muffler
