engine type question

Default engine type question

now im confused, i originally thought i had a d16a6 motor thought i bought from japan and swapped into my delsol which had a d16z6 sohc vtec. but ive been doing research and the d16a6's dont have vtec and my car does... the serial number as far as i can read says d16a. my friends and i looked under my hood and i have a vtec solenoid and everything so anyone have any input im friggin confused...

Someone must have swapped a VTEC head on it. What does the head cast stamp say? Take pictures.

the usdm d16a's are very close to the same as the d16z6. you can swap the z6 head onto the a6. the a6 originally came in the crx si's. and yes the a6 is non-vtec.

its pretty dark outside so i only have 2 pictures





i dont see who would have swapped the heads since it was supposed to just be a replacement for my z6 but its a d16 a something i think....

That looks like a z6 to me. Take a picture of the engine code that is stamped on the block (its right underneath the radiator hose in front)

if it's a jdm motor as it says d16a then it does have vtec, it is the sohc zc vtec motor from japan. They came out of the ej1's there. That's assuming you bought it from a japanese motor supplier. I almost bought one instead of the old d15b I had. It's pretty much the same thing as the d16z6.

yeah i bought it from a japanese motor supplier, i would think its a d16z6 or zc but it says d16a on the motor... ill take pictures tomorrow to help clear things up, but its just confusing haha.

Okay, well we know you have a D16A6 block from a CRX...but you need to give us the casting mark/ code from the head. Stand in front of the car and look on the head right above the 3rd exhaust runner. Does it P08-something?

its a jdm d16a motor theres no other serial numbers, thats the type of motor it is, not a d16a6, 8 or 9 just d16a, its too dark out right now to see anythin on the motor but i can tomo morning...

he does not have a crx botom end!!!!..it would say d16a6. you have the jdm version of the z6 motor.... same thing pretty much. specs will also be the same too
