Engine swap
I have a 1999 Honda Civic Ex
The car came with a Vtec single cam D16y8
im trying to swap it. I want to go b series with vtec and I don’t want to spend more than around $1500. Looking for a motor that can handle boost and eventually be built to make around 3 or 4 hundred horsepower.
am I asking for something imposible? I was also thinking gsr transmission because the gear ratio. Btw this car is automatic.

Re: Engine swap
i watch this this guy named zosh on YouTube and he’s gone through about 5 b20’s and I’ve heard that they’re weak and don’t like power. They are affordable I can pick one up for $500-$600 and have room for a transmission but it doesn’t make sense if the motor won’t last.

Re: Engine swap
Get a B18 LS with a GSR transmission. Strong enough to handle 250-300hp boosted, cheap, and you can always swap the VTEC head on before or after boosting. Also, take everything with a grain of salt, I don't know this "zosh" guy, but considering the standards of "youtube mechanics", I can assume they probably were using cheap chinese knockoff parts, not spending the time/money or have the experience to tune it properly, trying to get more than 250-300 hp out of it, or all of the above.
Bottom line is, for $1500 you should be able to swap in a non-VTEC engine, you MAY be able to swap in a VTEC engine, but you don't have a snowball's chance in hell of swapping anything AND boosting it on that budget, AND it being reliable. It's just not happening.
Cheap, Fast, Reliable: you only get to pick two.

No they aren't.
I dont consider a $500 motor making 140hp cheap when you can get a $500 junkyard chevrolet LS motor for the same price.
My honest advice is to wait 5 years and the new civic so 2.0 turbo swap will be worth the time to swap into a clean chassis.
