engine ping under heavy load. HELP!!
well, when i first bought the car around 4 months a go, the timing missed a tooth. so i replaced the timing belt, and the car runs way smoother.
now, i'm having problem that i feel sometimes the power is not there, but on other times it seems fine. also, i found out today, that when i'm in low speed and i put the gear to 4th or 5th, and floored it, i hear the engine pinging, so as loud as when i missed a tooth, but it is definitly there. but if i put the gear at approx. the right speed, like 35mph on 3rd and floored it, there is no sound.
should i adjust my timing, or the sound is normal when the engine is under heavy load.
thanks for the input.
cheers

Re: engine ping under heavy load. HELP!! (CIVIC96DXcp)
What motor are you talking about here? I'm assuming you have a 1996 Civic DX- the stock D16, then?
The sound is not normal under heavy load, especially for a low compression motor. The question is, what is your timing set at?

Re: (CIVIC96DXcp)
did you jumper the connector and turn off a/c, blower and lights when you set it?
I find the d16y7 motor pings easily if you are not dead on with setting the timing. must be due to lack of knock sensor.
