Engine Identification
Hey All,
So a few years ago when I wasnt as interested in what went in my car or who installed it, I had an auto repair spot replace my former engine (it threw a rod) with another used engine. My baby is now suffering from a blown head gasket and as I've become way more interested in learning how to to take care of her I've decided that I will fix it myself ( pep boys quoted $1000 for the fix). So far I've installed simple things like a radiator, various hoses, a starter, and some part on the suspension that I can't remember the name of.
I'm pretty handy so I'm sure that with the right tools and a manual. But im having some trouble figuring out what kind of engine I have. This is what I have so far:
D15B 4-1493 1.5L SOHC (says 16 valve on the top )
When I googled that I found that the engine seems to belong to various cars built in the late 80's/ early 90's.
Does it really matter what car the engine was built for?
How do I identify the engine?
Is ordering a head gasket kit online okay? Good brands? Bad brands?
Any tips you could send my way would be awesome.

Re: Engine Identification
If it has a HM stamped where it says D15B, then it's the JDM D15B from Japan. If there is a number after the letter of the motor that means it's USDM not JDM. The USDM d16y8 is the same parts as the JDM D15B so if you goto the part store order parts for a d16, or del sol si
