Engine Fans Running Often. Too Often?
I have a 98 Civic EX Coupe. I drive it a little rough sometimes when im in a rush but never over-beating it. I can hear my engine fans go on and they are kinda loud. It happens all the time and yet, engine temp never even reaches half.
Is this normal? Its kind of annoying honestly.
Any help would be great
TIA

yes, normal. check your fluid level, and you could ohm your sensor and see if it is going bad, but i think the sensor is either good or bad.

100% normal.
If it annoys you, you could dilute your coolant by adding more H20 into the mix.
Coolant consist of 50% anti-freeze and 50% H20. The anti-freeze is not a factor in the summer and H20 is what cools the engine.
What I used to do in the summer (and will do soon again) is get a qt of coolant from Honda and a gallon of distilled H20 and mix is all up and replace my system.
I recommend my method of diluting rather than using JUST H20 (even with water wetter) as the Honda anti-freeze has lubes and minerals to fight off corrosion in the system.

Replace your thermostat, it's not restricting the water flow and keeping the engine at the correct temperature. The fans are cycling too often because they may be seing a higher temperature at the sensor than normal because the thermostat isnt doing its job correctly.

Though I was wondering, if it was his thermostat, wouldn't the guage cluster show a much higher reading?

Depends on if the cluster temp reading sensor is the same one that controlls the fan, I'm not sure if they are seperate or the same.
