check for leaks and make sur your fan is coming on. i had the same problem and it turned out to be the fan switch which is located right by the thermostat

How many miles are on the car? ever replaced the thermostat? How long does it take to heat up? when u park ur car for the night, put newspaper under it to see if you have any leaks. Might have a cracked core. mine did so i just replaced it. now i think it cools it tooooo much.

the noises are prolly various metal parts that are too hot cooling down. metal does that.

i found a pretty nice all aluminum one on ebay for $75 shipped. took about 45 minutes to install (with 10 minutes of smoke breaks). look into replaceing the thermostat. thats the first thing you always check, besides leaks. cuz leaks are easy to check for, newspaper
