i am going to be dropping my rebuilt z6 back into my eg after it has been sitting for awhile and hopefully get on to the body shop. Got the head cleaned with a nice valve job, some arps bunch of new ****.
Anyways this is going to be my first time installing a motor is there anything that I should do that’ll help out ?
ive read it can go in from underneath but it’s pontless if you have a cherry picker as I do.
I know it’s pretty straight forward just wanted to know if there’s any little tips or tricks that’ll make this go smooth!

If your hoist has the tilt attachment you can get motor and tranny in together since you have better adjustments. But if not it’s sometimes easier to install block then Tranny
When you put it in together with the trans, protect the paint on the left (driver's) shock tower. I found that this was easily get scratched up from adjusting the motor as you're dropping it in.
It went pretty smooth. She’s everything done perfect, total 8 hour job with my step dad and I.
However I have one question
it seems that cylinder #1 piston oil squirter on the top hits the top of the valve cover and sounds like a mean valve tap. I adjusted the valves with the motor out, and it was my first time. Do you think I have tightended them too much? I used a gauge but wasn’t sure on the resistance part when inserting/pulling out.
Anyone ever have this happen to them ?

If you got them adjusted to tight there would not be chatter, but if they are lose you would. You might want to double check them, just make sure each piston is exact top center when adjustments are made, only other reason for chatter is if oil isn’t getting to them. I’ve never seen anything hit the top of the valve cover and I’ve built several d16z6 engines. When adjusting, you should have a slight drag on your feeler gauge without feeling like it’s hanging

edit: I had the head at the machines shop, got hot dipped and a valve job done, possibly it could not be getting enough oil. I haven’t really left it running because I don’t want something to happen to the motor. But the noise definitely goes faster when I accelerate. I don’t think it’s rod knock because I don’t feel anything on the block, only the valve cover. Like I said I’ll definitely recheck them. Otherwise the install went great

valve cover gasket
spark plug oil seals
cam gear/camshaft seal
water pump
thermostat
timing belt
timing belt tensioner
front main seal
clutch
rear main seal
oil pan seal
oil pan studs/bolts
headgasket
head bolts
Re-surface the flywheel
if not, you'll regret it later. It's so much easier when the engine is out of the car.
90% of those things were done. Didn’t cheap out on anything! Like I said no leaks she’s running better than before, starts on the first crank. My type s doesn’t even turn on on the first crank lol
