Default EF/EG suspension interchangeability

I have a 1992 Civic Dx hatchback with 200+k miles with the original shocks/struts. I have a 1988 CRX Si parts car with much newer shocks and original springs, and was wondering if the springs and shocks can be swapped onto the '92. The '88 front strut assembly looks a couple inches shorter than what is on the '92, but the mounting looks the same. On the back, the '88 shocks are of a different design versus the '92, so I would buy new rear shocks for the '92 to match the '88 fronts.
First off, will I lose suspension travel in the front of the '92 if I swapped in the shorter '88 units? I would like to maintain the stock suspension travel if possible due to a long commute.
Are all the springs (front & rear) off the '88 much stiffer than the springs on the '92? I would like to see a bit more stiffness, especially in the rear, for autocrossing.
I did not see any information like this in the FAQs or by searching, so I apologize if this is not a new question.
Thanks for the help.

the front 88 shocks have a smaller base so it may be a bit loose in the eg wishbones. you could use your 88 wishbones but the car will sit lower. the rear by the way are drop in and your eg is sit over. look at the bottom of both shocks. the 88 looks like type r's and the eg's look like most other civics. they will not bolt up on the bottoms. the 88 a rear in itself, it was not made again that way. oh, and the 88 springs are just a bit softer than the eg's, i assume it's to compensate for the extra weight. the top caps of both front and rear will bot up from the 88 and the eg just so you know...
