Dying interior plastic panels
As some of you may or may not know, i recently purchased a 95 Frost White Civic CX with that hideous blue interior. (No offense to the blue interior lovers )
I had originally planned on finding a complete "Type D" black interior to replace the blue pieces, but now i'm thinking that money may be better used for more beneficial parts since i am on a limited budget.
What i want to know is has anybody tried using something like the product below to dye their interior plastics, (Not the seats or carpet) or does anyone have any other suggestions of a cheaper way to a "darker" interior?
Thanks, JV

Re: Dying interior plastic panels (JV)
There was a thread awhile back where the guy dyed his entire interior black. Really good info in it. Do a search for it, I wish I could remember his name though.

Not too long ago, I dyed my airbag block off tray. CAme out great.
Make sure you use FLAT BLACK Dye. Gloss or Satin Black ends up too shiney.

I searched about 20 different ways. Can't find that thread or anything useful.
Thanks...

Did you use the duplicolor stuff or something else?

Yea, I have used vinyl paint for the ceiling and came out excellent. For door panels I plan on doing it as well.
Just take your time!

I used Plasticote Vinyl Color on my block off tray.
405 Flat Black
From Pepboys.
But honestly, I have used about 3 other brands on different projects, not car related and they all seemed to smell and work the same. This stuff is great on computer parts.

I bet he picked it up after he had some cams installed there. Or maybe one of their nitrous installs.

hit up d15dude, he painted his whole interior with that stuff. He even painted the carpet, and pleather seats. IMO you should just leave it blue until you can come across some black interior. I have first hand experience, trust me you will like the blue much better.

Why would i like the blue much better?
I love the black interior in my Milano Red 95 Civic EX and would like it in my CX too...

Re: Dying interior plastic panels (poison)
Painting them makes them look like crap. The quality of the interior is seriously cut in half! Blue is in no way good looking but imagine sitting in your car and feeling like you hope the paint doesn't rub off on your arm. My friend has a hatch with painted interior, I have firsthand experience in this. Trust me, it isn't worth the effort. It doesn't look OEM. Your best bet is to stick with the blue until you can source the black from another Civic.

You would have a point if we were talking about paint.

And everyone thought I changed my interior to black.

Re: Dying interior plastic panels (ej1civic)
Don't listen to ej1civic. He is just a perfectionist. If you want black
interior use that stuff in the picture. It works great. No, it wont look as nice
as your ex and it wont be perfect, but you will be happier with it than your
blue interior. My only advice is not to paint the seats, carpet, and the hard
plastic pieces like the door handles and the window handles, because it rubs
off easy from the hard plastic, especially if its a area that gets touched a lot.
Overall, it is a lot of work and it doesn't come out looking as good as
oem black. Good luck!
