Default done search..search sucks..how hard is it to swap a y7 engine for a y8?

topic says it all...whats needed? whats best? i can get an ex engine with decent miles for about 300 with tranny and ecu..but I plan on using my dx tranny with the y8...what about a d16z6..any suggestions? ..I have a hb and the engines practically gone..my dad said to just get a ex engine..so im contiplating on what to do..no swap.no nos..no turbo.just swapping out the d16y7 for a d16y8..how hard is it..how long is it.whats the procedures...thanks

unplug it take the hoses off, unbolt all 5 mounts, pull it out, bolt up what ever tranny engine combo you want, then reinstall reverse of removal. You'll have to add vtec wiring, that's about it. Hardest part is undoing the shift linkage(damnit you have no idea how much the little *** pin that you have to remove from your shift linkage irritates the absolute **** out of me." It's a pretty stragiht forward swap, anything missing off the y8 you should be able to get from the old motor, less the vtec wiring. Go for it, don't let the transmission fall on your head, or you'll end up like me!

don't forget the y8 ecu...and that's about it....pull out...drop in...wire up.

thanks man..how long do you think the whole process should take? I think ill need to rent an engine lift thing..and i really need a helms manual...haha..anymore opinions?

a day, maybe 2, , I think some of my boys pulled an engine out of one running car, and swapped it into another car within about 8 hours with 3 people working on it. That's taking the motor out of the donor car, pulling the motor from the end car, and swapping the new motor into the end car.
