Default does stock back pressure on turbo charged cars restrict high end power increase?

i got the greddy turbo kit running at 6psi (stock) on a non-intercooled d16. I dont have any other mods. When im at 5000+ rpms, the car seems to plateau its power, and pulling power becomes blah. the rate of change from 3500 to 5000 rpm is faster than from 5000 to 7000. Like when im on 3rd at 75 mph, it kinda lags to 90, and i pull harder on 5th when im speeding at like 95+ than 4th. Is this because of my stock exhaust?

BTW: a/f is stoic at all rpms: 14.1 on my apexi turbo timer

stock exhaust will hurt top end, but help somewhat with low rpm....

however even w/ a 3" exhaust your tiny greddy turbo will run out of steam before the redline....look into a t3/t4 kit for power up to and beyond the redline.

if i installed exhaust, would i actually notice a difference? or would it be a psychological difference?

I dont get it...the 15 g doesnt have really high flow as compared to other turbos, but it still puts out a constant 6 psi when i need it, and pushes air faster than my little engine can consume. could someone explain this concept?

What should i upgrade first to help with high end, intercooler or exhaust?

Backpressure kills power, as for low or high i dont know not a turbo guru. Just know that backpressure kills, so since i know the sequence in which your modding your car. I say spare a few bucks and get a test pipe.

you should get an intercooler as your next mod, that way you can cool the burning hot air you are shoving in there now....
6psi on a greddy turbo does not equal 6psi on a t3/t4 ......although the pressure is the same, the volume is differant.

i know a t3/t4 has more volume, but wouldnt a 15g push more volume of air than my car can inhale? if for instance, the volume intake was greater greater than the turbo's output, wouldnt there be an inconsistancy in pressure?

thanks for the replys by the way

Turbo + Back pressure =
Turbo + Little to No Back pressure =

It is a lot different w/ turbo. W/ all motor car you need a certain amount of back pressure. Turbo you don't.

how many horses increase is a typical intercooler with my setup?
I was also wondering, if you add an intercooler, why is it that it reduces risk of detonation if you are actually intaking more oxygen per volume?

Heat is a big cause of detonation. The intake charge is too hot so your air/fuel mixture ignites ahead of the flame front which makes power in all the wrong places. an intercooler with help cool the charge and make the intake denser with O2 just like a CAI.

Backpressure also makes the turbo work harder which means more heat therefore a less dense charge which leads to less power
