Do i need to replace my girdle or can it be replaced
Whilst fitting my balancer shaft illimination kit, i noticed i needed to push one of the plugs in more. So i pulled the girdle back off and as i did so, i snapped the opening of one of the girdle legs, around the plug. About a 2cm square piece. The plug is still firmly in the leg of the girdle but there is a tiny gap that would let oil escape form the bridge. So i put the snapped piece back its slot perfectly and smothered in instant gasket. But i dont know how long this will last or whether the oil will just shoot the piece out. I will try get good pics tomorrow but any info about the amount of pressure at this point etc would be great.

in for pics. are we talking about THE maincap girdle?
if yes, then i'd replace, then off to the machine shop to make sure the holes all line up. and i'm going to assume we're talking about an h22 cause of the whole balancer shaft eliminator kit.

Yea its h22 sorry. Yep main cap bridge, imagine the opening where the plug goes. Put the plug in a vice and snap it out the girdle lol along with the edge of the opening. In essence thats what i did haha

i couldnt prize the chips out from the hole :-S they are well and truly in there. the balancer shaft plug is in this channel and with the pieces removed there is like a 1mm hole above the plug exposed if that makes sense.

if u feel confident with it.... go for it ... but its gonna be a lost cause if they do fall out. i would have used a glue or epoxy to stick them in not silicone. if it was me i would replace it.

Well i thought about an epoxy but how hot is it going to get down there? What fixer would you reccomend? If i replaced the bridge, what would i have to make sure is right? Basically just gotta put the caps on and make sure the holes are true?

Devcon aluminum putty would be the right stuff to use for fixing that.

i can't remember a specific number, but it will hold up to the heat just fine. i don't think i would try it on top of the piston or in the chamber... but anywhere else in/on the engine is fine.
