do i need a new distributor?
i was driving and it just cuts out, i have fuel... but i dont think i have spark.
i replaced the cap and rotor, is there a way to test to see if the distributor is working properly?

have someone check for spark if no spark then it could be your ignition coil, you can check that with an ohm reader check primary and secondary

Take a spark plug out (leave it connected to spark plug wire) and lay it on something metal (preferably the valve cover) and get a friend to turn the motor over, and watch to see if it sparks.

If there is no spark and the coil turns out to be fine, then you might instead have a bad igniter unit/ICM in the distributor.
Also be sure to check the fuses and whether the timing belt snapped.

Great to hear! I too need ANOTHER new one cuz I blew through this one within a year...and it's just an N/A Z6! My grounds are solid, but my tach is going crazy now (again, just like last time) and the new dizzy fixed that last time.

yeah man, but like ronj@ht posted it could just be the coil part inside the distributor.
but in my case i got a pretty good deal on a used distributor ($60) so i didnt even bother testing it... anyways thanks for the help.
